Earth Angels
As I reflect on the things I am grateful for this season, I keep thinking about the many earth angels in our lives. These are the individuals who bless us along our path through life. They include friends who send you a “random” text to let you know you’re on their mind and that they are praying for you. They also encompass the medical professionals who work tirelessly to improve life for others, whether in the ER or providing occupational, physical, speech, or mental health therapy.
One group of earth angels on my mind is Cory’s “pickleball Bible babes,” as he affectionately calls them. Their leader is June, an inspiring woman at 86 years young. She began playing pickleball with Cory a few summers ago when she would hang out with him on Fridays. Last summer, she suggested that playing actual games would be more fun, so she gathered friends to join her and Cory for pickleball on Monday and Friday mornings from 8 to 10 AM. June would arrive at the court by 7:30 AM because the courts were available on a first-come, first-to-play basis, and she didn't want anyone beating her there.
As colder weather approached, we discussed moving the games indoors, and June took the initiative to find a place to play, reserving the court through the end of the year. Since we can only book a court for an hour, she diligently creates a schedule to ensure everyone gets a turn to play. Participating in pickleball with these friends is a highlight of Cory’s week. He loves his “pickleball Bible babes.” They earned this nickname because many of them are my friends from Bible study. We've affectionately referred to ourselves as the Bible Babes for quite some time. Cory has adopted them, and now they have become HIS Bible Babes.
Who are the earth angels in your life? To whom can you be an earth angel?
